Madison Valley Aquatic Center Wins Thanksgiving Charity Prize

When you’re done eating your Thanksgiving feast…put it on your face! That was the winning theme of a website created for a Thanksgiving Charity-Cook Off on behalf of the Madison Valley Aquatic Center. Sponsored by Squidoo, a social website that allows people to make free sites and shares ad revenues with them, the prize was $1000.

The winning site is entitled “Beauty Treatments with Thanksgiving Leftovers” and features many yummy recipes with leftover pumpkin, green beans, sweet potatoes, cranberries, mashed potatoes and even turkey fat for facials, scrubs, and foot soaks. Ginger Combs-Ramirez, the maker of the site and a board member of Madison Valley Aquatic Center, said, “I had a blast researching these recipes and putting together the website. I’m very grateful to Squidoo for choosing it out of the hundreds of sites that were submitted and donating so generously to Madison Valley Aquatic Center.”

Along with this site, Squidoo has chosen 25 other sites throughout the month of November to win $1000. On Thanksgiving day, all the winning sites will be voted on for best overall site. The prize will be $5000. Ms. Combs-Ramirez stated, “Hopefully, this site is good enough to win overall as well.” It would certainly be one time that having pie on your face was a good thing!

We have a new website AND we have our facility’s conceptual plan. The MVAC facility will have locker, meeting and party rooms, lap pool, kids play area and therapy pool. Future plans include racquetball courts and a climbing wall. The building itself will mostly be constructed in steel with views overlooking south and east. Our conceptual plans have been initially drawn and donated by Jason Hicks of Hicks Engineering, Inc. and Keith Redfern of Seven Designs, Inc.

We are now finishing our business and marketing plans in preparation to move onto fund raising!

MVAC Vision Starts to Take Shape!

Jason Hicks from Hicks Engineering P.C and Brad Bullock from Bullock Construction have taken the MVAC vision one step closer to reality. Working with the design elements provided by the study done by Waterwork Technology, Bullock and Hicks have developed the look and feel of the building. Giving MVAC a starting point to refine what is wanted and needed, these plans have excited us all. Initial designs vision a multi-recreational building that, although focuses on swimming, water play and therapy could also include raquetball courts, sauna, and climbing wall.

Stay tune in October for the community launch of all of these great steps, including a new website!

MVAC Aquatic Days at the Diamond J

MVAC Moves Forward

The Madison Valley Aquatic Center has hired Water Technologies, Inc. to create a design that will fit our county’s needs for an indoor water health facility. In December, 2008, representatives from Water Technology visited the Madison Valley and surrounding areas to get a sense of our county and what type of swimming pool complex would best work here. They presented a slide show of other projects that they have completed and talked about the different features MVAC might want to include. MVAC’s vision is to provide year-around water recreation promoting physical and mental health, therapy and fun for children, teens, adults, and elders. With three different river ecosystems, one of the greatest needs the Madison County has, is teaching water safety to all of its residents. MVAC will be a place for everyone to learn swimming skills that will protect them around water recreation in other situations. MVAC plans a facility with three distinct water areas. One will be fairly shallow and have play equipment for young children. A therapy pool will provide a setting for water aerobics and other therapy for anyone needing a warm water environment. A lap pool will provide a third area for lap swimming, water sports including basketball and volleyball, competitive swimming, and kayaking and scuba classes. The location of MVAC will be at the Ennis bus barn. Madison Valley Aquatic Center, Inc. is 501 (c) (3) corporation. All donations are tax deductible.
